Almost Done! Topics for May 23rd

Algebra I

Today we discussed
Today we looked a little closer at the Quadratic formula at what is called the discriminant.  By analyzing the discriminant, we can know a lot about potential roots for a quadratic equation.

Sections Covered in Textbook
1) 13-6: Using the Discriminant

Pre-Algebra

Today we discussed
Today we moved into a discussion about possible outcomes.  First we used tree diagrams to list our possibilities.  Then we used the counting principle to find the number of possibilities, and finally, we used the permutation and combination formulas to calculate outcomes.  Remember, a permutation is a list of possible outcomes in which the order matters (like a school schedule of classes) versus a combination where order does not matter (items on a pizza).
