Concepts for January 12th

Today we discussed
Our discussion about rational expressions moved into multiplying the expressions together.  Keep in mind that expressions with variables in the denominator will always have some excluded values that must be declared when simplifying or solving.

Pre-Algebra

Today we discussed
Our discussion moved on to multiplying rational numbers.  When we multiply rationals (fractions) we have several steps to remember:

  1. First, turn all mixed numbers and whole numbers into improper fractions.
  2. Simplify if possible by dividing out common factors from the numerator and denominator.
  3. Multiply the numerators together.
  4. Multiply the denominators together.
  5. Simplify, if necessary.
